Frequently Asked Questions
Where do YouTube tags come from?
Tags are keywords the creator adds when uploading. They are hidden on the YouTube page, but the official YouTube Data API returns them, which is what this tool uses.
Do tags still matter for YouTube SEO?
Tags play a small role. YouTube says they mostly help with common misspellings. The title, description, and thumbnail matter far more, but competitor tags are still a quick way to discover keyword ideas.
What is the tag character limit?
YouTube allows up to 500 characters of tags per video, counted including the commas between tags.
Why does a video show no tags?
Many creators leave tags empty. Private and deleted videos cannot be looked up at all.
