Frequently asked questions

How is the electricity bill calculated in Bangladesh?

Units are charged on telescopic slabs: the first 75 units at ৳5.26, units 76–200 at ৳8.50, 201–300 at ৳9.10, 301–400 at ৳9.62, 401–600 at ৳15.01 and above 600 at ৳17.35. A home using 50 units or less pays the lifeline rate of ৳4.63 on all of them. Then the demand charge (৳42 per kW of sanctioned load) and meter rent are added, and 5% VAT on the total.

What is the per unit electricity price in Bangladesh in 2026?

After the BERC order of June 2026, residential prices run from ৳4.63 (lifeline) to ৳17.35 per unit for use above 600 units a month. The average retail tariff is about ৳10.40 per unit.

How do I calculate units from watts?

Units (kWh) = watts × hours used × days ÷ 1,000. A 75 W fan running 10 hours a day for 30 days uses 75 × 10 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = 22.5 units.

How do I work out units from my meter reading?

Subtract last month’s reading from this month’s. If the meter went from 1,200 to 1,450, you used 250 units.

How many units does a 1.5 ton AC use?

A 1.5 ton AC draws about 1,500–1,600 W while the compressor runs, so 6 hours a day uses roughly 270–290 units a month. Inverter models use less.
