About the Background Remover
Background Remover cuts a person out of a photo automatically, from a selfie or portrait to a team or family photo. You get the cut-out at the photo’s full resolution as a transparent PNG or WebP, or on a white, coloured, blurred or new background, with an optional soft shadow and a crop to the person in square, 4:5, story or 16:9 sizes. A refine brush fixes hair, hands and edges the model missed. The AI model runs inside your browser, so your photos are never uploaded and there are no credits to buy. It is made for people, so products, pets and objects are not cut out reliably.
How to use it
- 1 Drop in one or more photos of people, or paste one with Ctrl + V.
- 2 Wait a few seconds while the background is removed. Use Compare to check the edges, and the Erase and Restore brushes to fix anything that was missed.

Is this background remover really free?
Yes. There are no credits, no sign-up and no watermark, and you download the cut-out at the full size of your photo. Many other sites charge for anything above preview size; here the AI model runs on your own device, so it costs nothing to run.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The background model is downloaded to your browser and runs on your computer or phone, so your photos never leave your device. Only your settings, such as the format and background colour, are remembered in this browser.
Does it work for products, pets or logos?
Not reliably. The tool uses MODNet, an open AI model trained to find people, which keeps it small and fast on any device. A person holding a product usually works; a product, pet or logo on its own may be cut out badly. You can still paint any subject in or out with the Restore and Erase brushes.
How do I make a profile picture with a white or blue background?
Choose Background › Colour and pick white, blue or any colour, set Size & crop to “Square 1:1” so the face is centred with space around it, and download. For an official passport or visa photo at the exact size, use the Passport Photo Maker.
How do I fix hair or edges the tool got wrong?
Choose Restore and paint over parts that were cut away, or Erase to paint out leftover background. The faded photo shows what can be brought back. Zoom in for small details, and use Undo if you go too far. The Edges sliders shrink a halo of old background or make edges crisper.
Why is the first photo slow?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 26 MB) and gets it ready. It is then cached, so later photos take only a few seconds each, even on a phone.
Can I remove the background from many photos at once?
Yes. Choose or drop several photos and they are processed one after another with the same background and size settings. Fix any of them with the brush, then press “Download all” for a ZIP.
