Checked 23 October 2026 against pension authorities, national laws and recent reporting on reforms. “Retire” is the age the main state or public pension starts. Where two ages are shown, such as “60 / 65”, the first is for women unless the country page says otherwise. “m” means months. Rules change and this is a summary, not financial or legal advice.

In most countries, yes. The UK is moving to 67 by 2028, Belgium to 67 in 2030, Denmark to 68 in 2030, and Austria is raising women’s age to 65 by 2033. France suspended its rise to 64 until 2028.
Can I be forced to retire?
In the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Denmark, mandatory retirement is banned for almost all jobs. Elsewhere contracts often end at the pension age, and government jobs in South Asia and Africa usually end at 59 or 60. Each country page explains the rules.
