Cement Calculator

Work out how many bags of cement, and how much sand and stone chips (aggregate), you need for concrete, a brick wall or plaster. Enter sizes in meters or feet.

About the Cement Calculator

The cement calculator works out how many bags of cement, and how much sand and aggregate (stone chips or khoa), you need. For concrete, enter the length, width and depth of a slab, beam, column or footing and pick the mix. For a brick wall it also counts the bricks, and for plaster it uses the area and thickness. Sizes can be in meters or feet.

How to use it

  1. 1 Choose concrete, brick wall or plaster.
  2. 2 Pick meters or feet and enter the sizes.
  3. 3 Choose the mix, brick size, bag size and wastage.
  4. 4 Read the cement bags, sand, aggregate and bricks.

Frequently asked questions

How many bags of cement are in 1 cubic meter of concrete?

For an M15 (1:2:4) mix, about 6.3 bags of 50 kg. Dry volume is 1 × 1.54 = 1.54 m³; cement is 1/7 of that, 0.22 m³, which weighs 0.22 × 1,440 = 317 kg. For M20 (1:1.5:3) it is about 8 bags.

Why multiply by 1.54?

Wet concrete takes up less space than the dry cement, sand and aggregate that go into it, because the gaps fill up and the materials bulk. Engineers use 1.54 (often written 1.52–1.57) to turn wet volume into dry volume.

How many bricks are in a 10 inch wall?

With Bangladesh bricks (240 × 115 × 70 mm) and a 10 mm joint, about 400 bricks per cubic meter of wall, or about 9 to 10 bricks per square foot of a 10 inch wall. Choose “Brick wall” to count them for your size.

How much cement do I need for plaster?

For 100 m² of 12 mm plaster in a 1:4 mix you need about 1.52 m³ of dry mortar, which is about 439 kg or 9 bags of cement and 1.22 m³ of sand.

What mix should I use?

M10 (1:3:6) for blinding and floors under tiles, M15 (1:2:4) for ordinary slabs and footings in small houses, and M20 (1:1.5:3) or stronger for structural slabs, beams and columns. Follow your engineer’s drawings.
