About the Upwork Fee Calculator
The Upwork fee calculator shows what a freelancer takes home from a fixed-price contract or an hourly job. It takes off the variable service fee (0–15%, shown on each job), the withdrawal fee for your payout method and the cost of Connects, and converts the result to your currency. Switch to “What should I charge?” to find the rate that leaves you a set amount.
How to use it
- 1 Enter the contract amount, or your hourly rate and hours.
- 2 Set the service fee shown on the job.
- 3 Pick your withdrawal method and how many proposals you send.
- 4 Read your take-home pay, or switch modes to find what to charge.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Upwork take from freelancers in 2026?
Upwork charges freelancers a variable service fee from 0% to 15% of what the client pays, set for each contract and shown before you send a proposal or accept an offer. It stays the same for the whole contract.
How do I calculate my Upwork earnings?
Take-home = amount × (1 − service fee ÷ 100) − withdrawal fee − Connects. A $500 job at a 10% fee leaves $450 on Upwork, and $449.01 after a $0.99 Direct to Local Bank withdrawal.
What should I charge to get $1,000 after Upwork fees?
Divide what you want by (1 − fee). At a 10% fee, $1,000 ÷ 0.9 = $1,111.11. Use “What should I charge?” to include the withdrawal fee too.
How much do Upwork Connects cost?
Connects cost $0.15 each, and you get 10 free a month. A proposal usually needs a few Connects, and more for popular jobs or boosted proposals.
What are Upwork’s withdrawal fees?
They depend on the method: about $0.99 for Direct to Local Bank, around $2 for Payoneer or PayPal, and more for a US dollar wire. Your Get Paid page shows the exact fee, and your bank or wallet may add a currency conversion margin.
