In India it uses the 15/26 formula with the ₹20 lakh limit, the 5-year rule and the new 50% wage rule, and shows the tax-free part. It also has pages for Bangladesh, and for the end of service gratuity in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Frequently asked questions
What is the gratuity formula in India?
Gratuity = last basic pay + DA × 15 ÷ 26 × years of service. So with ₹50,000 basic + DA and 10 years, it is ₹50,000 × 15 ÷ 26 × 10 = ₹2,88,462. Employers not covered by the law usually use 15 ÷ 30 of the average pay of the last 10 months, and count only completed years.
How many years do I need to get gratuity?
In India, 5 years of continuous service, except on death or disablement. Since the labour codes came into force on 21 November 2025, fixed-term employees qualify after 1 year. In the UAE and Qatar you need 1 year. In Saudi Arabia there is no minimum when the employer ends the contract, but you need 2 years if you resign.
Is 4 years 7 months counted as 5 years for gratuity?
In India, part of a year over six months counts as a full year in the formula, so 6 years 7 months is paid as 7 years. Whether 4 years 7 months meets the 5-year minimum has been argued in court; the calculator counts the time you actually worked for the minimum, so check with your employer if you are close.
What is the maximum gratuity limit in India?
An employer covered by the law has to pay at most ₹20 lakh. Up to ₹20 lakh of gratuity in your whole working life is tax-free for private-sector employees; anything above that is taxed as salary. Government employees’ gratuity is fully tax-free.
What changed in gratuity under the new labour codes?
The Code on Social Security, in force from 21 November 2025, keeps the 15/26 formula and the ₹20 lakh limit but adds two changes. Fixed-term staff qualify after 1 year instead of 5. And if your allowances are more than half of your total pay, the extra counts as wages, so gratuity is worked out on at least 50% of your pay. Enter your total pay in the calculator to apply it.
How is gratuity calculated in Bangladesh?
Under section 2(10) of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, gratuity is at least 30 days’ wages for every year of service, or 45 days’ wages for every year once you have served more than 10 years. Part of a year over six months counts as a year. Most companies pay it on the last basic wage under their own gratuity scheme.
How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?
You get 21 days’ basic salary for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after, with the daily wage at basic ÷ 30, once you have worked a year. Part years are paid in proportion and the total is capped at two years’ salary. Under the 2021 Labour Law, resigning no longer reduces it.
How much end of service do I get if I resign in Saudi Arabia?
Nothing if you have worked less than 2 years, a third of the award from 2 to 5 years, two thirds from 5 to 10 years, and the full award after 10 years. The full award is half a month’s wage for each of the first five years and a full month’s wage for each year after, on your last wage with fixed allowances.
How is gratuity calculated in Qatar?
Qatar’s Labour Law gives at least three weeks’ (21 days’) basic salary for each year of service after the first year, with part years in proportion. Your contract can give more. Resigning does not reduce it.
