A bonus some countries add to money sent home through banks. Leave it empty if there is none.

About the Remittance Calculator
The remittance calculator shows what really arrives when you send money home. Enter the amount, the exchange rate and the fee you are offered, and it works out the money received, the real rate after fees, and how much the transfer costs you against the mid-market rate. Compare up to four offers side by side, add a government incentive, or start from what your family should receive to find what you need to send. Everything is worked out in your browser.
How to use it
- 1 Pick the currency you send from and the one it arrives in. Today’s mid-market rate is filled in.
- 2 Enter how much you send, or switch to the amount that should arrive.
- 3 For each offer, type the rate and the fee the bank, exchange house or app quoted you, and whether the fee is paid on top or taken out.
- 4 Read what arrives, the real rate after fees, and the cost of each offer. The best one is marked.
Frequently asked questions
What is the mid-market rate?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the prices banks buy and sell a currency at, the rate you see on Google or in the currency converter. Money transfer services usually give you a lower rate and keep the difference, so it is a fair yardstick for what a transfer really costs.
How do I work out the real cost of a money transfer?
Take what you pay in total, fee included, and convert it at the mid-market rate. Take away what actually arrives. The gap is the true cost: the fee plus the margin hidden in the rate. For example, if you pay 1,015 riyal and 1,000 is converted at 31.80 taka instead of 32.20, 32,683 taka would be fair but 31,800 arrives, a cost of 883 taka, about 2.7%.
Is a zero-fee transfer always cheaper?
No. A service with no fee often gives a lower rate, and the margin in the rate can cost more than another service’s fee. Compare the amount that arrives, or the real rate after fees, not the fee alone.
What does “fee taken out of the amount” mean?
Some services add the fee to what you pay (send 1,000 and pay 1,015). Others take it from the amount you hand over (pay 1,000 and only 985 is converted). Pick the one your service uses so the totals match the receipt.
What is the remittance incentive in Bangladesh?
Bangladesh has paid a government cash incentive on money sent home through banks and licensed channels, 2.5% of the amount for many years, credited on top of what arrives. The rate and the rules can change, so check with your bank and enter the current rate in the incentive box.
How can I send more money home for the same cost?
Compare two or three offers on the same day, since rates change daily. Sending a larger amount less often usually cuts the share lost to flat fees. Use licensed channels: informal transfers like hundi or hawala are illegal in many countries and give no protection if the money goes missing.
Why is the rate I am offered different from this one?
Rates here are the daily mid-market rates. Banks, exchange houses and apps set their own rates, which change during the day and are usually a little lower. Type the rate you are actually quoted into each offer.
