Assumes the rate stays the same. When interest compounds less often than monthly, each month earns the matching share of the period’s interest. DPS and FDR: instalments go in at the start of each month; source tax is 10% of the interest with proof of a filed return and 15% without; excise duty comes off once a year on the year’s highest balance, free up to Tk 4,00,000. Banks round and credit interest in their own ways, and renewed FDRs earn the rate of the renewal day. Rules last checked 26 October 2026 against the Finance Act 2026. About the Compound Interest Calculator

The compound interest calculator shows what your savings grow to when interest earns interest. Start with a lump sum, add a deposit every month, and compound daily, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly in your own currency. It also has a DPS calculator and an FDR calculator for Bangladesh banks that take off the 10% or 15% source tax and the yearly excise duty, so you see the money you actually take home.

How to use it

  1. 1 Pick Compound, DPS or FDR.
  2. 2 Enter the starting amount and monthly deposit, the DPS instalment, or the FDR amount.
  3. 3 Enter the yearly interest rate, how often it compounds or the FDR term, and how long you keep it.
  4. 4 Read the balance, the interest and the year-by-year table, and copy the share link if you need it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the compound interest formula?

A = P × (1 + r ÷ n)^(n × t), where P is what you start with, r the yearly rate as a decimal, n how many times a year interest is added, and t the number of years. Monthly deposits add D × [(1 + i)^m − 1] ÷ i, where i is the monthly rate and m the number of months. $10,000 at 7% compounded monthly with $200 a month for 10 years grows to about $54,714, of which $20,714 is interest.

Is daily compounding better than monthly?

Slightly. $10,000 at 5% for 5 years grows to $12,840 compounded daily, $12,834 monthly, $12,820 quarterly and $12,763 yearly. The more often interest is added, the higher the effective yearly rate (APY): 5.127% daily against 5.116% monthly at a 5% rate.

What is APY or AER?

The annual percentage yield (APY), called AER in the UK, is what you really earn in a year once compounding is counted: (1 + r ÷ n)^n − 1. Banks quote it so that accounts that compound at different times can be compared fairly.

How long does it take to double my money?

Divide 72 by the yearly rate for a quick answer: at 8% money doubles in about 9 years. The calculator shows the exact time from the effective rate, ln 2 ÷ ln(1 + APY).

What is the difference between simple and compound interest?

Simple interest is paid only on the money you put in. Compound interest is also paid on the interest already added, so the balance grows faster every year. The calculator shows how much more compounding earns than simple interest for your numbers.

How are DPS and FDR worked out for Bangladesh?

A DPS takes the instalment at the start of each month and compounds the interest. An FDR earns amount × rate × months ÷ 12 for each term and renews. The bank takes 10% source tax from the interest if you show proof of a filed return, or 15% if you do not, and excise duty once a year on balances above Tk 4,00,000.
